New therapies for neurovascular bundles regeneration after radical prostatectomy: A narrative review on clinical studies

Prostate cancer is the most common amongst men, and one of its treatments in localized stage radical prostatectomy (RP). This technique achieves a high success rate regarding oncological results, but main drawbacks are sexual disorders, especially erectile dysfunction, ranging from 14-90% cases. Therefore, surgery advancements last decade have been focused on minimizing impact patient’s functioning. Now time for step forward recovery functional outcomes after RP. Bioengineering solutions such as stem-cell therapy tissue engineering hold great opportunities treatment all tissues organs dysfunctions, which may help neuroprotection neuro-regeneration. Specifically, use Dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane (dHACM) allografts chitosan membranes (ChiMe) aims at reconstructing damaged neurovascular plexuses urogenital system to support function recovery. Some research being done this topic, promising results emerging.
